Gran Canaria

Southeast of Tenerife lies the third largest Canary island, Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria is mostly mountainous island of volcanic origin. It is called '' Miniature continent '' because of the many microclimate types and various relief features, and almost a third of the island is under UNESCO protection as Biosphere Reserve. Gran Canaria is an island of eternal spring: thanks to the mild climate and warm sea island is full of tourists all year round.

The island of Gran Canaria was originally inhabited Berber tribes Guanches in 500 BC. The island was conquered by Spanish on April 29 in 1483. Today Gran Canaria has nearly 850 000 inhabitants. The capital and the most important tourist destination is Las Palmas, located on the northwest coast of the island. Las Palmas is a large cosmopolitan city with beautiful colonial historic center, wide avenues, gorgeous parks and squares, tall buildings, luxury hotels and many restaurants, cafes, clubs, shops and shopping centers. The city Las Palmas has a large marina with over 1250 berths for yachts and sailboats.

Although has round shape and poorly rugged coastline, Gran Canaria has several very attractive and popular beaches. The cities Las Palmas, Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles are adorned by divine kilometers long sandy beaches full of tourists and tourist facilities. On the east coast of the island, 20 km from Las Palmas, is located international airport Gran Canaria.
