Milazzo

Milazzo is a town located on the north coast of Sicily, largely includes a narrow peninsula of Capo di Milazzo. Milazzo is the main starting point for sailing to the magnificent Aeolian Islands, protected by UNESCO. Milazzo is a town of long and varied history date back to the Neolithic period, and the city is also mentioned in Homer's Odyssey as the place of Ulysses shipwreck.

Milazzo is today one of the most interesting Sicilian cities, it has about 53 000 residents. Milazzo has several notable landmarks that are worth visiting; medieval castle and citadel of Milazzo, Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Monastery of St. Francis de Paul. Milazzo has a number of restaurants, taverns, bars, shops and souvenir shops. In the area of Milazzo there are three marinas with charter bases for boat rental and sailing to Aeolian Islands and Strait of Messina.

Milazzo is adorned by long sandy beaches and the most famous beach is Baia Del Tono, which extends along the west coast of the peninsula of Capo di Milazzo. Milazzo has no airport; the nearest international airport is located in the city of Catania on the east coast of the island.
