Alghero

Alghero is town situated on the northwest coast of Sardinia, in the similar bay. Alghero has been founded by Genoese at beginning of the 12th century and from 14th to 18th century was a Catalan colony. Alghero is today plume of Sardinian tourism, a mixture of Italian and Catalan culture and architecture, city full of natural attractions and superb cuisine.

Alghero has about 44 000 inhabitants and part of them makes the Catalan minority. The city has plenty of traditional restaurants and taverns, bars, cafes, shops and small crafts. Near the town is national park Porto Conte with the famous megalithic buildings Nuraghe and magnificent Neptune’s Grotto. The city port is the center of events, and in the southern part of the port is situated modern Marina di Sant'Elmo with charter base.

Alghero is known for its beautiful beaches located in the city and its surroundings. The most famous beach is Lido, located in the city center, with fine white sand and numerous restaurants and bars. Further to the north of Alghero lies another beautiful sandy beach in the shade of the thick pine forests, Maria Pia. Alghero has an airport which connects the city with several European destinations.
