Samos

Samos is a Greek island situated in the northeastern part of the Aegean Sea, only 2 km from Anatolia. Thanks to large sources of fresh water Samos is extremely fertile island, adorned by lush vegetation and fields full of vineyards, making it one of the greenest Greek islands. Samos is an island of the rich and interesting history, in ancient times it was the center of the Ionian culture. Today the island has about 32,900 inhabitants who are mainly engaged in agriculture and tourism. Valuable cultural and historical heritage of the island Samos has been recognized by UNESCO, which had put under its protection archaeological sites Pythagoreion and Heraion.

The island is adorned with a multitude of picturesque villages and towns, the most important are Samos, Karlovassi and Pythagorion. Samos or Vati is the capital and the largest city situated on the north side of the island. Samos is characterized by beautiful Venetian houses and neoclassical buildings combined with modern architecture. A lively nightlife is completed with numerous restaurants and bars. On the southeast coast lies a town of Pythagorion, one of the most developed tourist resorts on the island. Besides numerous restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity you’ll find the remains of the famous Pythagorean School and Heraion sanctuary. As the port of Samos in mostly crowded during season, you can find berths in marina Samos, located 15 minutes from Pythagorion.

Samos offers a large number of beaches; from hidden and peaceful bays, through the shallow and sandy beaches for families and children up to the popular beaches with lots of amusement and catering facilities. The most popular beaches are Kokkari, Psili Ammos, Pythagorio, Tsamadou, Lemonakia and Mykali. 5 km east of Pythagorion is situated Samos airport which connects island with Greece and several European destinations.
