City of Athens
Athens is the capital of Greece and one of the oldest and most important cities in the world. It is located in the southern part of the peninsula Attica, on the right bank of the Saronic Gulf, surrounded by high hills. Athens is a city of rich and interesting history and is known as the cradle of modern civilization. Athens is inhabited almost for the last 7,000 years. It was a center of Mycenaean culture and one of the most important Greek polis. It intertwine different styles and influences; Classical, Hellenistic, Byzantine, Ottoman and Neoclassic. Athens is full of important and valuable cultural - historical monuments of which is definitely the most important Athenian Acropolis, a complex of ancient monuments and buildings located above the town.
Athens is a touristic one of the most developed and most visited cities in the world. It is full of modern and stylish buildings, museums and galleries, luxury hotels and apartments, traditional and international restaurants, night clubs, cafes. Athens city center streets boasts a large number of souvenir shops, jewelry stores, antiquities and luxurious stores of world's most famous brands, making it the world's shopping mecca.
Southeast of the city is located Athens airport which connects Athens with almost entire world. Southwest of Athens lies one of the major Greek marinas, marina Alimos. The marina has nearly 1,000 berths, and offers a variety of additional facilities and is the main starting point for sailing to the Argo - Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades archipelago.
