Offshore regatta course - Sailing school and competition at the Susak 2021 regatta

As part of our advanced and regatta courses, we have a habit of visiting local regattas and trying out what we have learned in the regatta field. This time we competed in an Offshore regatta about 100 nautical miles long - Ičići - Susak - Ičići

Offshore Susak Regatta 2021

At the end of the year, for the 3rd time in a row, the great Offshore regatta Ićići - Susak - Ićići - about 100 nautical miles, has traditionally started..

Our team of students from our sailing school expressed a desire to participate in a similar regatta, and to do a very demanding offshore training or as we say offshore regatta course, and of course if the weather and other conditions allow.

The regatta has two variants and is sailed either "double handed" or for the entire crew. We went as a crew consisting of an instructor and 6 participants who had already completed our beginner, advanced and regatta courses, so this was a kind of step forward for them. We sailed on our school boat Archambault Grand Surprise which was made and designed for such regattas and conditions.

I believe that most people who sail as amateurs have never gone through such a challenge, so it was certainly a great experience for our participants that will surely benefit them in future voyages.

The start was on Friday at 10 am according to the plan in front of the ACI Marina Ičići and only a few wind knots from the north and the fleet was slowly heading towards island Cres. As we approached island Cres, the wind began to rise from the West-South-West direction.

Conditions during the regatta were more or less the same with the wind direction from the southwest, west with occasional thunderstorms during the night. During the night we also had a few showers and a hail, mostly comfort was nowhere in sight.

The last few hours of the regatta we had nice pressure on the stern and planing towards the finish line, but because of the rain we did not see the gust of about 40 knots of wind, which we managed tosurf on for a while, but in the end we had spin out and lost 2 places in the standings of the crews who did better in that thunderstorm.

Our first Offshore course / competition successfully completed and with a great position, we finished 9 in total and the first in our group.

Congratulations to the participants and we invite everyone who would be interested in such sailing course to contact us and join us in future adventures.

We will participate in most regattas in the Kvarner and northern Adriatic during the season, and all the exact dates and programs will be published here, on the website and through our pages on social networks

If you would like to find out more or book your place on board for one of these regattas, feel free to send us a short request with contacts and the desired date to email info@sailing360.com

We wish you safe sailing and calm sea ...
